Scientific Open House

The Batten Kill Fishery, a Review of Scientific Findings 2000-2004

The Green Mountain National Forest and the VT Fish & Wildlife Department conducted a public open house and poster session presenting the results of the 12 studies of the river undertaken in Vermont from 2000-2004. The studies included everything from water chemistry and temperature to the role of predation. This presentation of study results was presented twice in order to allow maximum public attendance. The sessions were conducted as a series of displays open for review and discussion. The first Batten Kill Scientific Open House was held at the Manchester Town Hall on October 27. The second was held at the East Arlington Federated Church Hall on October 29. The public was invited to drop in at any point during those open houses sessions. The sessions permitted the public to view displays summarizing the different scientific studies and ask questions directly of the scientists and technicians who conducted the research. These sessions provided all stakeholders with a common scientific understanding of conditions for trout on this river. Future discussions of regulations and policies for fishing on the Batten Kill will occur at later public meetings. These scientific results will serve as an important component of the fishery management decisions that will be made in the future.

The posters summarizing the research and results from these studies and presented at this open house, are made available here in electronic format (PDF files) courtesy of the VT Fish & Wildlife Department.
