The Agricultural Stewardship Association presents, "Learn to Fish on a Conserved Batten Kill Farm", Saturday, June 7, 9am-1pm, in Jackson, NY. In partnership with the Batten Kill Watershed Alliance and the Clearwater and Southwestern VT chapters of TU.
Didymo discovered in VT. The invasive aquatic algae known as Didymo has been found in the Connecticut and White Rivers in VT. This will be a hot-button issue, so stay tuned for further details.
Upcoming Watershed Planning Meetings. The second round of public watershed planning meetings is scheduled for August.
VT DEC Watershed Planning Meetings Follow Up The VT DEC held the first round of public meetings in June to solicit input into the development of a five-year Basin Plan for the Batten Kill, Walloomsac and Hoosic Rivers.
The final Batten Kill Trout Management Plan (2007-2012) was approved on January 16, 2007. The VFWD removed the stocking element and designated two critical spawning tributaries as 'no-harvest' during the month of October. The final management plan, in effect through 2012, focuses squarely on river and habitat restoration.
